Giacomo Bove planned a great project, supported by the President of the Italian Geographic Society Cristoforo Negri, to explore Antartica.
The expedition should last three years and cost 600.000 ITL (2,3 million of €) donated by private subsciptions.
Going via the Atlantic sea they would reach Argentina, Patagonia, The Land of Fire, the Falkland islands going as far as the sea of Ross.
This was to ascertain if they were islands or part of the mainland.
They would make observations about geography, metereology, magnetic and astronomy.
The project met with great enthusiasm but the cost was too high and it was shelved.
